Ron deHarte Elected Regional Director of InterPride
San Diego LGBT Pride Executive Director Ron deHarte was elected to the InterPride board of directors as a regional director to represent a number of Pride organizations that include those in Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Utah, Mexico and the Baja Peninsula. InterPride elects two representatives from each of 20 geographical regions that are spread throughout the world in an effort to increase networking and camaraderie among the various organizations.
deHarte's duties will include advancing the mission and purposes of InterPride and promoting its membership through outreach to other Pride committees within his region.
"I'm honored to be serving this region's Pride organizations and representing their interests worldwide," said deHarte. "San Diego Pride has a long history of assisting other Pride organizations and providing leadership on the international level. This appointment to the InterPride board reinforces that commitment."
InterPride was originally founded in Boston as the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Pride Coordinators, where in 1982 representatives from several U.S. Pride organizations (including San Diego Pride) established a working alliance. Today, the organization selects an annual international Pride theme and licenses the title "World Pride," which was first held in Rome in 2000 and Jerusalem in 2006.
This year's San Diego Pride celebration is titled, "United for Equality." It is scheduled for July 21-22, with the Spirit of Stonewall Celebration to be held on July 15 in Balboa Park along with several other pre-Pride events planned in the month prior.
