Pride Plants Trees in Balboa Park

San Diego Pride funded the planting of ten Ginkgo biloba trees to raise community awareness on environmental issues and enhance the re-forestation of beautiful Balboa Park.

The trees were planted by Balboa Park's Park Forestry Unit on June 26, 2008 in the west side of Balboa Park, just north of where the annual Pride Festival occurs.

The tree planting was a way for the Pride organization to give back to the community, promote positive environmental benefits trees provide to the park, and raise awareness of Pride's recycling programs

As the Pride trees grow, they will bring additional beauty to the park and surrounding homes, help reduce carbon dioxide from the air, attract birds and wildlife and prevent soil erosion.

Tree planting Participants (left to right in photo) included Mike Rodrigues, Area Manager II, Balboa Park Recreation/Special Events; Mike Tully, Grounds Supervisor Balboa Park; January Riddle, Co-Chair San Diego LGBT Pride; Philip Princetta, Co-chair San Diego LGBT Pride; Stephen Hall, Toni Atkins Deputy Chief of Staff, District 3; Jeff Redondo, Production Assistant, San Diego LGBT Pride.

A Celebration of our Diverse Community!

"One of the most popular events of its kind in the country."
The San Diego Union-Tribune

The San Diego Pride Celebration is the 5th largest in the United States attracting 150,000 spectators to the Parade and 50,000 to the weekend Festival. The Pride Parade is the best attended and largest single day event in San Diego.

The Pride Parade is a powerful display of diversity, acceptance and celebration. Thousands of Parade participants move with flamboyant splendor on the mile long route with their gay banners waving above the exuberant caravan of lavish floats, drag mavens in fancy duds, dykes on bikes and gay-friendly politicians, sponsors, and civic organizations. Over three hours, the streets of Hillcrest burst with colorful displays of pride amid music and dancing emanating from the nearly 200 parade contingents. 150,000 enthusiastically cheering spectators lining the Parade route, the Pride Parade is a highlight of the Celebration.

The two-day Pride Festival features multiple stages of entertainment, musicians, bands, comedy and dance performers, 300 participating vendor booths, an Art exhibit, a Vintage Auto Show, cultural presentations, great food and much more!

Our Mission is to foster pride in and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities, locally and globally.
